When two tech-industry titans join forces, it’s bound to make an impact. So, it’s no surprise that when IBM and VMware partnered to simplify cloud adoption, they empowered companies around the globe to broaden their reach.

To demonstrate the benefits of this partnership, we wanted to develop a narrative-style video featuring a business that has found success from it. Dream Payments—a mobile-payment company based in Toronto, Canada—was a perfect example to illustrate real-world results for small businesses.

We drew out Dream Payments’ unique story through interview questions tailored to the CMO and CIO.

Connecting independent merchants and established brick-and-mortar operations with the latest cloud transaction technology, Dream Payments is a major player in North America’s mobile payment industry. In 2016, they won a $1.5 million investment award through Connecticut Innovations’ first-ever pitch competition at VentureClash. In just a few years, they have become a powerful force driving the market trend toward mobile payment solutions.

We knew we wanted to harness that momentum in telling their story.

On a chilly January weekend, we headed to Toronto. Over the course of four days, we shot a series of interviews and footage of Dream Payments in action at the downtown Kensington Market. We also captured striking B-roll of city life—people ice skating at Nathan Phillips Square, aerial views of the waterfront, and the brilliant lights illuminating Toronto at night.

The result was a compelling two-minute spot on how a small mobile-payment company turned into an international mobile-payment cloud provider—and the everyday impact of IBM and VMware.
